Watch Refurbishing

Watch Refurbishing

Every timepiece reveals its' collection of stories to the refurbishser during refurbishing, from the smoky bars of the 70's & 80's to the engravings from loved ones. Each story is gently removed one by one until the watch is ready to collect a new lifetime of stories.

Watch refurbishing is the mostly cosmetic restoration of a watch. First, the piece is assessed and mise en place is created with all the supplies you will need. Then the band is removed, the crown is removed, movement, and crystal removed. Once the case is empty, it is cleaned then metalworked with stripping, polish and buffing. The dial is cleaned, repaired if necessary (and if possible), then a new crystal installed, crown and case back seals examined & replaced if possible. Lastly a band selection is made.

Sometimes bands are made with jewelry, incorporate jewelry or need to be altered to fit and/or suit the watch. Refurbishing differs from restoration in that restoration involves the movement and refurbishing does not, except for minor repair such as timing & cleaning.
